It has been announced that Bertrand Meyer is this year's recipient of the ACM Software System Award. The Software System Award is awarded to "an institution or individual(s) recognized for developing a software system that has had a lasting influence, reflected in contributions to concepts, in commercial acceptance, or both.

Dr. Meyer receives the award for "designing and developing the Eiffel programming language, method and environment, embodying the Design by Contract approach to software development and other features that facilitate the construction of reliable, extendible and efficient software.

ooRexx 3.1.2 RC1 has been released. ooRexx is a portable, open-source REXX implementation based on IBM Object REXX.

This release includes: a new OLE class, documentation updates, plus other changes and bug fixes.

Scheme 9 from Empty Space has been announced. It aims to be an R5RS Scheme interpreter.

SML# 0.20 has been released. It is an extension to Standard ML, adding support for improved interoperability with C, record polymorphism, and rank-1 polymorphism.

Frink 2007-03-30 has been released. Frink is a language which allows for units of measurement to be tracked throughout calculations to help ensure correct answers.

This release includes improvements to the integrated help system.

StarLogo TNG Preview 4.1 has been released. StarLogo TNG includes an agent-based visual programming language.

This release includes several bug fixes.

Cat 0.10 has been released. Cat is a functional, stack-based programming language.

This release includes: support for optional named parameters, an overhaul of the parsing code, support for type annotation labels, and other changes.

Logtalk 2.29.5 has been released. Logtalk is an object-oriented extension to Prolog.

This release includes: improved multithreading support, improved performance for dynamic predicates, better debugging support, new and updated examples, and other changes.

Lua 5.1.2-rc5 has been released. Lua is a dynamically-typed scripting language offering object-oriented capabilities, designed for extending applications.

This release candidate includes bug fixes.

It has been announced that the schedule is available for the 2007 International Rexx Symposium. It is "the premier technical conference where Rexx users and developers gather to exchange ideas and information and plan for the future of the language.

The conference will be held from April 30 to May 3, 2007, in Tampa, Florida, USA.

Erlang/OTP R11B-4 has been released. Erlang is a general-purpose language, offering support for concurrency, distribution and fault tolerance.

This release includes a new escript program used for writing scripts in Erlang, and other changes.

It has been announced that the next SyPy meeting will be held on April 5, 2007. SyPy is a group of Python users based in Sydney, Australia.

PyPy 1.0 has been released. PyPy is a Python implementation written in Python.

This release includes: support for just-in-time compilation, interpreter optimizations, improved .NET support, aspect-oriented programming facilities, and other changes.

CTAL_0 1.0.0a has been released. "CTAL_0 is a strictly typed assembly language that is intended to be used as a target language into which C programs are compiled.

Digital Mars D 1.010 has been released. D is a general-purpose language designed as a successor to C++, offering features such as design by contract, garbage collection, first class arrays, closures, templates, and more.

This release includes: support for template partial specialization derived from multiple parameters, the addition of the Object.factory(char[] classname) method for creating class objects based on a string, performance improvements when resizing and appending arrays, plus other changes and bug fixes.

The EuroPython 2007 conference has put out a call for proposals. "EuroPython brings together developers, designers and business people in the Python and Zope communities.

The talk proposal submission deadline is May 18, 2007. The conference itself will be held from July 9 to 11, 2007, in Vilnius, Lithuania.
