SBCL 1.0 Released

Steel Bank Common Lisp 1.0 has been released. SBCL is a portable, open source ANSI Common Lisp implementation.

This release includes: experimental threading support on x86 FreeBSD, support for setting the size of the dynamic space reserved on startup, the type-checking of writes to CLOS instance slots in code compiled with (SAFETY 3), floating-point exception handling on FreeBSD, support for callbacks on Linux/PPC, speed optimizations, working hyperbolic functions on Windows, plus other changes and bug fixes.

P2O 1.1 Released

P2O 1.1 has been released. It is a tool for translating Pascal source code into Oberon source code.

F# 1.1.13 Released

Languages :: F#

F# 1.1.13 has been released. F# is a variant of ML running on .NET, sharing a core language with Objective Caml.

This release includes: support for range comprehensions, 'for' loops over enumerables, C-style syntax for native functions, support for pattern matching on arrays, library enhancements, plus other changes.

PLAN-X 2007 Call for Participation

PLAN-X 2007: Programming Language Technologies for XML has put out a call for participation. This workshop "turns the spotlight on how programming languages can embrace, for example, tree-shaped XML data structures, regular expression types extracted from schema descriptions, very small or large XML instances, queries against XML data, and XML transformations.

It will be held on January 20, 2007, in Nice, France.

Dec. 2006 Jython Monthly Call for Articles

A call for articles has been put out for the December 2006 issue of Jython Monthly. Jython Monthly is an online newsletter covering a variety of Jython-related topics. Jython is an implementation of Python written in Java.

This edition covers topics such as: the announcement of OCaml bindings for inotify; French, Italian and Japanese translations of the Objective CAML Tutorial; and float rounding.

SWI-Prolog 5.6.24 Released

SWI-Prolog 5.6.24 has been released. SWI-Prolog is a portable, open-source Prolog implementation.

This release includes an update to JPL 3.1, plus other changes and several bugfixes.

GNU Smalltalk 2.2d Released

GNU Smalltalk 2.2d has been released. It is a portable, open source Smalltalk-80 implementation.

This release includes: licensing changes, the creation of RegexResult objects in C code rather than in Smalltalk, packaging fixes, Brad Watson's ncurses bindings, plus other changes and fixes.

Excelsior JET 4.8 has been released. Excelsior JET is a certified Java SE 5.0 ahead-of-time compiler system.

This release includes: improved disk footprint reduction, performance improvements, Spanish and Polish localization support, and other changes.

ActiveTcl 8.4.14.0 and 8.5.0.0b6 Released

ActiveTcl 8.4.14.0 and 8.5.0.0b6 have been released. ActiveTcl is a quality-assured Tcl distribution from ActiveState.

ActiveTcl 8.4.14.0 includes: a Universal Binary distribution on Mac OS X, an update of the Tcl/Tk core to 8.4.14, and other updates and changes.

ActiveTcl 8.5.0.0 Beta 6 includes: a Universal Binary distribution on Mac OS X, an update of the Tcl/Tk core to 8.5a5, plus other changes.

Lispin Project Website Launched

The launch of the Lispin project website has been announced. "The project's goal is to provide Lisp and Scheme languages with an indented syntax similar to SRFI 49 and other poposals.

PyCon 2007 Keynote Speakers Announced

The keynote speakers at PyCon 2007 have been announced. The speakers include Ivan Krstić, Adele Goldberg, Guido van Rossum and Robert M. Lefkowitz.

PyCon is a community-oriented conference targeting developers of Python applications and the Python interpreter itself." It will be held from February 23 to 25, 2006, in Addison, Texas.

newLISP 9.0.4 has been released. newLISP is a portable, general purpose, Lisp-like scripting language.

This release includes: new hyperbolic functions, a new 'round' function, plus other changes and fixes.

BASIC-256 0.9 has been released. It is "an easy to use version of BASIC designed to teach young children the basics of computer programming.

This release includes: the addition of file access commands to the language, a "poly" function for drawing complex shapes, new string manipulation functions, and build system improvements.

2e 0.8 Released

2e 0.8 has been released. 2e is an experimental language built around a C-style conditional operator ("? :") and an iterative conditional operator ("?? :"). An embeddable interpreter, ee, is also available.

List of Languages Indexed by PLRE Available

Websites

The availability of the list of programming languages indexed by the Programming Language Research Engine has been announced. PLRE is "a custom search engine created using the Google co-op service for searching primarily academic sites related to programming language theory, design, and implementation.

The Python Papers Call for Submissions

The Python Papers has put out a call for submissions for the next edition.

Industrial and academic submissions are being requested, with the proposal submission deadline being January 8, 2007.

REBOL 2.7.2 Released

REBOL 2.7.2 has been released. REBOL is a dynamic, multi-paradigm language, with emphasis placed on networked and distributed computing.

This development release includes changes to the SWITCH function, in addition to other changes and fixes.

YAPC::Europe 2007 Website Launched

It has been announced that the YAPC::Europe 2007 website has been launched.

The conference will be held from August 29 to 31, 2007 in Vienna, Austria. The speakers include Larry Wall, Damian Conway, and Audrey Tang.

This release includes: the 'turnkey' word; support for lower-case characters in numbers, base permitting; plus other changes and bug fixes.

Digital Mars D 0.175 Released

Digital Mars D 0.175 has been released. D is a general-purpose language designed as a successor to C++, offering features such as design by contract, garbage collection, first class arrays, closures, templates, and more.

This release includes: stack allocation of class variables declared with 'scope', support for '== super', plus other changes and fixes.
