Excelsior JET 4.8 Maintenance Pack 2 has been released. Excelsior JET is a certified Java SE 5.0 ahead-of-time compiler system.

This maintenance pack includes support for Windows Vista, plus other features and fixes.

Java for Mac OS X 10.4, Release 5 Developer Preview 2 has been released. "Java for Mac OS X 10.4, Release 5 delivers improved reliability and compatibility for Java 2 Platform Standard Edition 5.0 and Java 1.4 on Mac OS X 10.4.8 and later."

This release includes: an update of J2SE 5.0 to version 1.5.0_07, an update of Java 1.4 to version 1.4.2_12, improved SWT compatibility for J2SE 5.0, and other changes.

The Kitchen Sink Language project has been announced. It is an experimental branch of Sun's Java compiler.

James Gosling: "For years I've wanted to set up a "Kitchen Sink Language" website for experimentation. A place where people could throw language features, no matter how absurd, just so that folks could play around. Now that javac has been open-sourced, it's easy."

Sun Microsystems has announced the release of Java SE 6.

This release includes: improved interoperability with scripting languages such as JavaScript, PHP, Python, and Ruby; the inclusion of the Mozilla Rhino JavaScript engine; expanded tools for diagnosing, managing and monitoring applications; and more.

Java for Mac OS X 10.3, Update 5 DP1 and Java for Mac OS X 10.4, Release 5 DP1 have been released.

They are available from the ADC Member Site. "Both contain updates to more recent JDK releases as well as bug fixes and performance improvements."
